I remember this year mostly for the being disappointed with the World of Warcaft MMO. I wanted another another strategy WoW. But there was also the release of the DS, which got me back into handheld gaming, and cueing up for my first midnight release for Halo 2. The rest of the world was buying GTA: San Andreas and Pokemon FireRed/Leaf Green, numbers 1 and 2 in sales respectively. Half-Life 2 was a notable winner on Metacritic. Here's some stuff I played and want to play.

In my plan to study a decade a month for the year of 2019, I've finished my first book on January's decade 1900-1909 concerning art. Then I finally finished up Halo: Silent Storm, a kind of return to the roots of the Halo story. I hope the same is true of the next game.

I played three games today: Minecraft, Horizon Zero Dawn and Crimson Skies.
Shmups – or shoot em ups for you uncultured swine – is a genre where you shoot things. You also avoid things. It's kind of like Undertale's pacifist battles, except for a full game. The genre has seen a resurgence, especially on pc. After Cave released some of the best the genre has to offer, the store flooded with unique titles. This list aims to cover the obscure ones, as well as some for beginners to try.

Armada, by Ernest Cline, is about Zack Lightman (that name's words are almost Luke Skywalker) who plays the MMO space shooter Armada. Zack's father dies suddenly so he becomes obsessed with his dad's interests in 70s and 80s gaming and pop culture. Eventually, as a teenager, he finds his dad's journal outlining a conspiracy and from there the plot thickens.
Finished The Milkman Conspiracy last night in Psychonauts, now I'm in a woman's head trying to put plays together in a specific order that will allow me to fight a phantom on the catwalk. I think I know who the phantom is ... but I stopped playing, cause I didn't feel like trial and erroring last night. You have to produce the right plays on the right stage for everything to fall in place. It's a fun puzzle, but not something I wanted to do last night.
