It is Day 2 of BaD, and how are you good people doing? I’m doing well, it’s a little chilly here in sunny SoCal (by chilly I mean 67 degrees). For today’s edition of BaD I decided to give a first look at a new game I purchased yesterday.

Happy Friday good people of Pixlbit! As our week is coming to a close, let us enjoy the absolute freezing weather we’ve been having. Yes East Coast I too have been going through cold weather…and by cold I mean Southern California cold. I’ve seen some pics of people’s home surrounded by mountains of snow, frozen water in their toilets, and the crazy folks who throw boiling water outside (I would so do this). Stay warm people!

Help me grow my backlog! (seriously)

So big news, at least for me anyway, Thanks to Kay (one of our bloggers here and all around awesome gal) I got a sweet deal on a 60 gig PS3 with full compatibility with PS2 and PS1 games. I have a pretty good PS1 collection as that's maybe my favorite console ever, but I owned a Xbox last gen, so I missed out on a ton of amazing games. I'd like to change that.

When it comes to getting things done in my apartment during the work-week, I'm completely useless. I figure I'll have enough time to finish chores by a certain time or catch up on tv or movies but all I recently had time for is sleeping and eating and then cleaning up to go to work. Either I really can't manage my time well or its damn near impossible. I only feel alive and alert during the night when I'm working.

If you're like me a huge fan of the Metal Gear series you might also have a craving for merchandise and other awesome stuff related to Snake, Raiden and the whole bunch. Fear not! There's plenty of merch to go around, some might say that there's even a bit too much merch being sold for Metal Gear Solid, but I'll let you be the judge of that.

Hello interwebs! I go by the gamer profile of Jae_Blaze06, and as an artist, Black Oni. I've been a passionate gamer for as long as I can remember (dating back go my first ever console, the Sega Genesis), and have extended my love of gaming to my love of creating art. I am a proud business owner of Black Oni, a business dedicated to providing visual excellence in design and illustration. As an introduction to who I am and my youtube channel, I leave you with this time lapse video I created of Raiden (from MGS Rising Revengeance) featuring music by The Shanghai Restoration Project. The PixlBit staff is quite diverse in their gaming passions, and it’s one of my favorite things about writing here. In addition to being “Mr. Final Fantasy” I probably also hold the title of biggest Metal Gear Solid fanatic. Well, I might tie with Patrick Kijek, but MGS is a series that I’ve followed religiously since playing the Japanese Famitsu demo disc way back in 1998. It follows, then, that I should be beyond excited at the announcement of Metal Gear Solid 5, right? While I’m always happy to hear of another main entry in the series directed by Hideo Kojima, I just can’t muster up much enthusiasm for this one. Even the shininess of new console hardware and the Fox Engine can’t get my blood pumping. Why? Chalk it up prequel fatigue, and a longing for what could have been. (Note: The following editorial contains major spoilers for Metal Gear Solid 4. You have been warned.)

War transforms us, Snake. Into beasts.

A certain inability to walk into a normal life pervades the player’s thirst for playful violence after taking down the Patriots in the Metal Gear series. The Winds of Destruction will have to fill that void. Some, like Sundowner, claim we surround the Self with violence, because of the feeling instilled when you kill your enemies and liberate the less fortunate and able. Others maintain that we argue philosophy as a way of waking up the beast inside of the Self. Regardless of the means, these musings have persisted through the Metal Gear franchise from the beginning. With Metal Gear Rising, they mesh high and low culture together in allusions that complicate our reason for loving to play.

Metallica, Megadeth, Metal Gear?

Spinoffs can be a dicey proposition. There’s a real danger of diluting the name of the original franchise by slapping it on a bunch of games that are only somewhat related, and if the spinoff isn’t a quality game to begin with it can cause brand degradation. When a spinoff succeeds though, it can lead to an entirely new franchise that runs parallel with the source material, slicing and dicing its own path to popularity. I’m happy to say that Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance is just that type of game; something that can stand on its own as a great action game while still fitting into the convoluted Metal Gear universe. But this isn’t your daddy’s Metal Gear; if Solid Snake is a little bit country, Raiden is 100% metal.

This ain't your daddy's Metal Gear!

I was really worried about Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance. It was originally known as Metal Gear Solid: Rising, and was announced in 2009 as an Xbox 360 exclusive. A troubled and protracted development cycle almost ended in cancellation before the project was given over to Platinum Games. We may never know the full story about how an Xbox 360 exclusive designed by an in-house team hand-picked by Hideo Kojima became a multiplatform game developed by Platinum, but I can at least say that my worries are gone. Metal Gear Rising may not be what people have come to expect from the Metal Gear series, but so far I’d say it’s an impressive game in its own right.

Kojipro is all about the bling.

Limited editions of big, triple-A games aren’t very, well, limited these days. There was a time, however, when the idea of a rare, feature-packed special edition for a game was almost unheard of. Konami helped pave the way for these collector’s gems with the Metal Gear Solid Premium Pack (Japan only) way back in 1997. Since then it’s almost expected that huge releases will have some sort of incentive for rabid fans of a franchise, but that’s not stopping Konami from doing up two of their upcoming releases with all the bells and whistles, as they just announced limited editions for both Zone of the Enders HD Collection and Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance.

He’s been seen in publications all over the world lately, and in the newest Famitsu, he revealed some interesting news about the new action game.
