Due to a schedule change, I was off today, so I gamed at my buddy's place. I started off with a new randomly rolled game 'cause I wasn't in the mood for more Red Dead Redemption. Then I tackled Game Pass weekly and monthly rewards points games. And then I squeezed in I am Fish.

It was my friend's birthday today and so we hung out and played games. Here's what I played.
Is it modes or moods, I'm not sure, but I had two modes I was in today. One was the mode of chasing after rewards points, the other was playing any old-school-looking turn-based RPG I could find on Xbox's Game Pass.
Donkey Kong made me a fan of Nintendo very early on. To this day, DK is my favorite arcade game of all time. I loved it for being one of the most colorful, expressive games out there. It was probably as close as you could get in the early 80s to having a playable cartoon show. So naturally, when more Nintendo games started showing up at the arcade, my young self was excited. And if any game could tear me away from DK, it was Mario Bros.
Microsoft Rewards wanted three achievements from me so I dove into my casual stuff to get them. I only got two achievements because I'm somewhat far along in the games I played today which means achievements take longer to get. As I get to the last few achievements in a casual game, I just play it for a short time to make some progress and move along. Today, I got really into Lego Batman and never did get to my Game Pass stuff or my main game, Torchlight III. Sometime later this weekend I'll get to them I suppose. So here's a breakdown.
This out December 2001. It's an isometric view adventure game. You shoot things with the magic of four basic elements. It feels a bit like an action RPG like Baldur's Gate Dark Alliance except this is a single-player game and all you use are magic spells. I played as if there was permadeath, so let's see how I did.
I managed to get to 8 different games today. Fun stuff. Here's some details.

As it so happened, the Game Boy was the perfect present, as my older brother found out when he graduated from middle school. After the party was over and everyone had gone home, mom and dad came downstairs with a just one more wrapped present. I still remember my brother opening the box and joyfully exclaiming “It’s a Game Boy”! Since Tetris came packaged with it, we wasted no time playing that Russian puzzle game for years to come. It was the perfect game to complement the perfect present.
So today, I downloaded Turok on Switch. It's a gussied up port of the N64 adventure/FPS, with all the good and bad that entails. It honestly probably holds up better than most 5th gen games, running pretty fast and smooth.
I'm going to make what will, again, probably be my only BaD contribution.
So Matt Snee suggested that I should post some of the stuff that I usually share with him on Discord. Took me a few days, but I'm finally doing it.
I am just going to do whatever housekeeping I have at the end of this entry.
So much for my pledge to be more active with my posting here. I haven't posted since my last BaD post and even those weren't as frequent as I wanted them to be. Hopefully and currently, I will make more of an effort to be more active here.
