If there’s ever a time I dread writing a review, it’s when my subject is a highly favored game that has received so much praise over the years that it’s a bit hard not to sound like I’ve just hopped aboard the nostalgic hype train at this point. Check any top 10 list of the best Super Nintendo games, and you’ll be hard-pressed not to find The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past floating somewhere within the top five, if not the number one spot. It’s a testament to its staying power in the minds of the gaming community at large. When I sat down to play this game for myself, I only had one question- is the game really that good? Yes. Yes, it is.

Weird month for me. My weekend is Tuesday and Thursday, so I added a half day after work today in anticipation of Thursday. I played one game for Microsoft rewards points, a second for Game Pass rewards points and then another randomly chosen game. I'm really enjoying the randomly rolled games. I love not knowing what's going to be next.
RAW: Realms of Ancient War, a game I think I got for free with Games with Gold. It came out in 2012 for Xbox 360, PS3 and PC. I don't know how I missed this one, since I love the hack-n-slash genre. I got deep into it and so did my gaming buddy. Take a look.
While I was trying to stick to my retro game playing, my friend was still deep into Dishonored 2. As an assassin, he had lots of bodies to hide and it was funny to watch him fill up bathtubs and decorative ponds with them. Kind of gruesome but the physics of throwing a whole body around in this game is pretty funny.
Over the years, there have been many different types of cartridge software released. Where music and video media (eventually) became standardized, each game system had its own form of storage media. In addition to carrying interchangeable game software, companies tended to make the design and appearance of the cartridges themselves distinctive as a marketing gimmick. Most of us have memories of having game cartridges in boxes, not to mention blowing on the edge connectors when our games glitched out. So here's a brief overview of various game cartridges throughout history. This is not an exhaustive list.
The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword was an odd beast for many reasons. It originally released in 2011 for the Wii, and had a lot of expectations to live up to, both from fans and from Nintendo's financial department. Unfortunately, it met with a sharply divided reception among both, in no small part because Skyward Sword often got in its own way with its design.
Last time we looked at the arcade cabinet shaped NEO GEO Mini, which has a total of 40 games! That’s enough to split this blog series into two parts, so here’s the second part with the rest of the games on this mini console.
By 1990, Sega was enjoying newfound success with their new 16-bit Genesis system. It quickly became a competent competitor to the NES with popular titles like Golden Axe, Phantasy Star II, and Revenge of Shinobi. But despite the rising success of the Genesis, the platform didn’t have a brand character that could rival Super Mario. Tasked with creating such a mascot, character designer Naoto Oshima came up with Sonic- a blue anthropomorphic hedgehog. Sonic the Hedgehog was released on June 23, 1991- two full months ahead of the Super Nintendo’s debut in America. It was a big summer for Sega, and today marks the 30th anniversary of the moment that made them an icon in the home console gaming space.

With Mario Golf: Super Rush on Switch coming out at the end of this month, I thought I’d make a list of my favorite golf video games in honor of that. I usually don’t dabble in sports games, but golf games translate pretty well to video games and can be very arcade-y and cartoony, so I tend to gravitate to those. I’m also doing this list in honor of Father’s Day this month as well, since my dad likes to play golf and has enjoyed at least one of the games on this list. And the games on this list aren’t in any order of preference or anything, so keep that in mind. OK, let’s tee off!

Good morning Pixlpeeps! I am about to head out to Walmart but I thought I'd share another video some swingin' video game music. Have a good one!
I looked up games played in the Renaissance and decided on Tennis. The origins of the game extend back into the middle ages, but it's in the 16th century that rackets and the word "tennis" started being used. I used to play a lot of competitive tennis in my teens but now it's just in video games. I picked up this game on Xbox One for free called World of Tennis: Roaring '20s and found it pretty enjoyable, although definitely not as realistic a simulation as Tennis World Tour.
I swear this week I’ve lost track of the days and apparently it is Friday. Crazy. Well since I remembered, it’s still morning here in overcast/rainy Southern California, let’s get started.
