This episode of Nerds Without Pants is coming in late, and I don’t have the energy to do a clever show post or time stamps. I’m sorry; I’ll do better next time. In this episode we talk about some of our favorite memories of game related gifts. We go heavy on Ghost of Tsushima, and we squash the PixlBit beef over Donkey Kong Country 2 and Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze.
Taking a step deeper into our beloved hobby passed history and the broader gaming scene leads us to how individual games are made. Blood, Sweat, and Pixels is a delightful read that covers an interesting spread of games, including The Witcher 3 and Stardew Valley. I am interested to see how Jason Schreier follows it up. Making Fun is a recent acquisition that I have not started yet. The author, David Craddock, is quite prolific in the game space and does not usually get his due, I feel. He does good work.

Hey, folks! If you've been listening to Nerds Without Pants this year, you know we debuted a new segment: Video Game Cage Match! This is a one on one death match between games selected by the listeners, and then judged by the most arbitrary criteria possible. We've had such memorable match ups as The Witcher 3 vs Bloodborne, Mortal Kombat XL vs Street Fighter V, and Final Fantasy VII vs Quest 64. Yeah, you read that right. Anyway, we thought it would be fun to have a game of the year cage match when we come back from hiatus in January, and that's where you come in!
Hello all, April is over. Now we move on from the showers into May. May doesn't seem to be brimming with exciting new titles this month. Rage 2 is probably the highlight. While the original was fairly mixed, maybe this new entry can boost the series. We also have the new kart racer, Team Sonic Racing. I know we have all been waiting for this. While May be a bit light in 2019, it has historically hit some grand slams this generation. Let's take a look.

We've talked about novels and those books with visuals. Now there is just clean up. Early last year I read Blood, Sweat, and Pixels, which tells the development stories for a bunch of games like Destiny, The Witcher 3, and Stardew Valley. I love stuff like this and the book did not disappoint. Definitely look it up if you're into the real world side of game development. Something I actually did blog about last year is Empires of EVE, a history of the first few years of EVE Online. I've never played that game and have no real desire to, but the history of what happened was still remarkedly compelling. The second volume is supposed to come out this May and I am excited to see what happened next.
