Pixlbit Army I know Tuesday can’t hold you back, how are you good people doing? For you East Coasters continue to stay warm. Currently it is a nice 46 degrees here in abnormally warm Sunny Southern California, and today I continue with my Game Library. For today I want to write about my favorite handheld ever, the Playstation Portable. There was a lot of hate towards the Playstation, but I felt it was an awesome handheld that could a number of things, kind of like the preview to the tablets and smart phones we have today. Yes I know Microsoft had a tablet around the same time but seriously who bought that thing? The PSP was my all in one media device, it played games, it played mp3s (this was before my mini-disc and phone that played mp3s), it could play movies…if you converted them to whatever proprietary Sony format, and it could go online. The online portion was rough, like 56k rough. All it was missing was that connecting sound.

My latest edition of Quick Hits is a little late because I had some things to do in the morning, watched Aztec Softball at lunch (they were playing that team in Ann Arbor at Arizona State), and since I have some time now, in the very warm SoCal…it’s 107 freakin’ degrees! 107! I thought about going thrift store hoppin’ but since it’s hot, I’m spending time with Mr. Air Conditioning. Ok so this week’s Quick Hits with Chris is a little bit of everything. Stuff from gaming to pickups to television. Sound like fun? Well good, let’s get this party started!
Grand Slam Tennis began life exclusively on the Nintendo Wii. While versions were planned for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, they were delayed indefinitely, giving players the choice of only the cartoonish, less realistic version of the game. This year, EA has taken it to a new level with Grand Slam Tennis 2, which offers a much more serious game, complete with a new presentation and control scheme.
This past weekend the PlayStation Vita launched in Japan and did rather well. With the initial launch of the system now behind us, it’s time to start looking forward to the day when the rest of the world will be able to purchase Sony’s new handheld: February 22, 2012. Sony had already announced the European launch titles during a Vita event in London a few weeks back and has only just now revealed what the US can expect on store shelves come launch day.
Virtua Tennis has been going strong at this point for over a decade. Having played every game in the series, it’s clear that the gameplay has not evolved much, but that’s because the fundamentals that were introduced in the first game were so solid they aren’t in need of much more than slight tweaks. Instead, Sega has continued to make the game more fully-featured to help draw in new players. Virtua Tennis 4 is impressive in scope, offering a huge variety of mini-games within the main quest, a solid selection of real life tennis superstars, and a motion control centric mode that works surprisingly well with the PlayStation Move controller.
