At the beginning of the year our thoughts turn towards what games we want the most that are (supposedly) going to be released this year. Looking ahead to 2016, given my tastes in gaming, it's looking like a good year, certainly leaps and bounds ahead of 2014 and 2015. Lots of RPGs coming down the pipeline. There's probably a lot of other stuff I'm not even aware of yet.
Okay, I’ll admit: I have been procrastinating both my vacation plans and some writing but I think it’s time to get into things. After I’m done posting this blog I’m going straight to my PC in the living room and start up System Shock 2. As far as writing is concerned I’ve been having mixed thoughts about it. One moment I’m up to writing a review but then suddenly I ask myself what am I doing. When I email the current review I’m writing I’ll talk to the guy. Writing blogs on the other hand is something I have been seriously putting off, even though nothing has really happened. Though I have discovered something about my ability to write or work in general.
Second weekend day of gaming today, but first last night after I wrote my Sunday blog. I got in some Pokemon Shuffle mainly to clear the street passes, but I played the main quest until I was out of hearts. It might have been about an hour. It's simple fun. I really liked the music actually. There was some that sounded like traditional Japanese music. I enjoyed that a lot. I think I wouldn't mind being surrounded by that sound more often.
Over the past couple of weeks I've been reading Deus Ex: Icarus Effect, a prequel novel to Human Revolution. I finished it last night and while it started kind of slow—lots of character building and situation set up—it eventually became a real page-turner. It did touch on a few things from the game, specifically the attack on Sarif Industries at the beginning of Human Revolution, and featured some characters you'd cross paths with in the game, but it mostly did it's own thing and that was fine. It was a good story. But now it has me jonesing for more Deus Ex! So last night I downloaded the mobile game, The Fall, which is a direct sequel to the book. After installation it's the largest game I've ever had on my phone—1.5 gigs! I haven't started it yet but I've heard lots of good things. Once I get through that I plan to tackle the Director's Cut of Human Revolution. I loved that game in its original incarnation, so I know this will be even better. Can't wait to see those redone boss fights!
While reading the second half of Dragon Magazine #106, February 1986, I thought about that date and remembered that the movie Quicksilver, staring Kevin Bacon, came out. I don’t remember much about it except that Kevin Bacon rode some cool bikes, but the music I was very interested in because it featured Tony Banks, keyboardist for my favorite band at the time, Genesis. There was also a song with Fish, lead singer of Marillion, another band I followed back then. But enough reminiscing, on with Dragon 106.
