Not really slew them but played them and none of them for very long actually, but whatever, I enjoyed them. Here's the lot.

Good evening Pixlpeeps! I need to reply to everyone and I’m sorry, it’s a little hectic right now because it’s almost Turkey Day and we’re getting ready here, so the day has been nothing but running around picking up last minute items, and when I got home I took a nap. I need to clean the bathroom after this so I’m gonna try and make this short.

Yes, I'm alive. Busy and burned out at work and it's not even June. More about that at the end. I've been gaming more these days, so I actually have something to blog about for a change. And yes, true to form, they are all "late to the party" games that I'm sure everyone else played ages ago.

Except for Minecraft Dungeons, in which I played a single dungeon and failed to beat it again. The rest is all from collections I have on Xbox One. I'm specifically playing games from the years '85-'89. I also watched about 20 minutes of Dragon Quest: Your Story on Netflix. 

So get this: earlier this morning, around 4am I get up to use the bathroom, and went I get back to bed I hear this faint beep-beep-beep-beep. I’m barely awake so I’m looking around to see if I turned on the TV (you would think the glow of the TV in a dark room would be the first clue I would look for, but I’m again half asleep). It’s not on, so I peak out of the window because the HOA put out an email about people getting into the neighborhood and stealing cars. I wanted to know if some yahoo was doing some kind of computer wizardry on the truck. It was still there, and now I’m awake. Is it the crazed car steeling gang? Is it aliens? Is it aliens who are in a crazed car steeling gang? I stayed up until 6am when I just fell asleep. The faint beep-beep-beep-beep sound would come in and out but stopped around 5ish. Thinking about it now especially with the rhythm of the beeps I think it was someone’s alarm clock across the little park/retaining basin. Also I have a lot of neighbors who go to work around 4:30am….or it’s that crazed car steeling gang.

November has passed and what it mostly consisted of is shitty weather, the usual grind of work and sleep, some better films than in October and gaming on the usual titles. Thanksgiving was rough at first due to being sick on the actual day. The day after, I was feeling better but bummed that I missed out on Thanksgiving for the first time in my life. Luckily, my older brother came to the rescue and invited me to a late Thanksgiving dinner with his wife and the in-laws. Good food, plenty of time spent with my now 9-month old nephew and the company of family. Perfecto.

Yesterday I had a marathon of wrestling that started at 2pm and didn’t end until 9:30ish because WrestleMania. I had my iPad and Switch ready to go in case I run into wrestling dry spells (boring matches) but surprisingly I didn’t have to use them much except for spots here and there. I call that a win. Let’s get started with the handful of games I’ve played.

Saw some film and played a plethora of small games and demos, plus Minecraft. 

In 1998, Final Fantasy Tactics got me into strategy RPGs. For years, FFT was the basic template for most console SRPGs. Ten years later, Sega brought the genre into the contemporary generation of consoles in grand style by releasing Valkyria Chronicles in the US.

I found the Banner Saga soundrack in my copy of the Trilogy Bonus Edition. It was under the game disc where I didn't expect it. I'm so happy about finding it. I listened to it all day today and it's great. It's mornfull and sounds, at times, like a dirge or funeral music, but that's sort of the situation in the game. The characters are facing an apocalypse and many die fighting it. I imagine the music is sourced from old Norse folk music. There are men's chorus', blowing of horns, the clatter of percusion, it has a martial tone at times but there are softer moments too. I keep hearing echoes of the theme to the 1982 film Conan The Barbarian too. Also Shostakovich. 

There’s a new fighting game starring all sorts of video game characters, and no it’s not Smash Bros.  If you were upset that Shovel Knight is just an assist trophy in the new Smash, well this may be the game for you.  Blade Strangers is a 2-D one-on-one fighter featuring characters from games like Shovel Knight, Code of Princess, Cave Story, The Binding of Isaac, and Umihara Kawase.  Since the characters are interesting enough, here’s a blog about them!

So the week is almost over and I finally get around to a What Is Chris Playing Blog, but better late than never, right? Last night I took another game off Mount Backlog which is good, but then I stayed up way too late roaming through the free play but more of that in a bit. For now let’s get started.

Dissidia Final Fantasy was one of my favorite games on the PSP.  It was a fighting game featuring characters from the popular RPG series, and there were two of them on Sony’s first handheld.  I always thought it would be neat if there was a version of Dissidia on one of the big consoles, so I was excited when Square-Enix announced Dissidia Final Fantasy NT for the PS4.  I’ve been playing it recently, so here’s a blog about the characters and stages you can find in it, as well as some brief impressions of the game as a whole.

I got a working copy of Sega Classics Collection today, but I just couldn't pull myself away from Forza Horizon 3 to play it. 

I just wanted to think back and see if I can remember what games I played thorughout the year.  The idea is just to come up with a list now.  This should allow me a reference point for when I start thinking about my favorite game(s) of the year.

The other day I finally retired my mostly evil Fable II character. I didn't set out to be evil but I ended up with horns and strange blue scar marks all over my massive female frame. I boosted her height, strength and slimness to the max making her like a female Spartan from Halo. I got the last few achievements I could get with that character. I got all the expressions, skills and dog tricks for the completionist achievement. Mark jumped in to get it too (Most of the achievements can be had by watching someone else do it in co-op). So after that, I felt it was time to start over.

I like Wednesday. Wednesday means I'm almost at the weekend, I'm hitting the groove, and there's probably other things too but I'm here and let's catch up. Currently I am ripping the last two CD books in my collection and they are the CD Singles (I miss this format). This will probably take the longest because whoever wrote the tags for some of these discs are lazy. Anyways I should catch you folks up on what I've been playing.
