After I quickly bailed on a few games, I looked through the free-2-play games list in the Xbox store and found some fun ones that took up the rest of my game time on the weekend.

Hello, it's been a while since I have posted anything, but I have been thinking about it lately. I am working on a new blog and putting some ideas together. For now here is my PlayStation 2020 Wrap-Up where you can see how the last year went for me. There are some  interesting stats here:

Here’s a continuation of my list chosen using Metacritic’s "All Time Games" as a rough guide. I went through page two and made the list below. One failing in the Metacritic list is that it only goes back as far as 1996. I’ll need a list that includes 80s and early 90s games eventually. For this list, I’ve put my preferred console(s) next to each entry.

User Review: Nintendo's portable systems, a review. Pt. 4 - The Nintendo 3DS

Review

Welcome to my last review of Nintendo's portable consoles. Today, I'll be talking about the 3DS, the little portable that could. It's been a wild ride with this system. From its not-so-humble beginnings to its numerous incarnations, and now, its slow walk into the sunset, it's had a good 8 years now. I'll be honest, the last time I bought a game for the thing was in 2014. Still, I did have a lot of fun with the system. It just felt like to me that it burned bright for only a short time. Developer support for 3rd party kind of dropped off. Plus, Nintendo's offerings felt more like afterthoughts because they were busy trying to push forward with the Wii U, and the versions of games offered were often watered down experiences from its big brother counterpart after the first few years. Still, I recognize that the market was strong even after I stopped playing it, and the target audiences were those that could not afford a home console. So let's get to it. But first, a meme:

They didn’t have a quest for me, so I just took off to the islands to explore. I found a soldier’s campsite and the Lush Grasslands. By the time I got back, I was given a new quest.

Retro 2010-2014 For October

Not quite retro, but it'll do. I'm currently populating a list of games, books, film and music that I have and want from those years. I'll try and play some of the games (although Forza Horizon 4 will probably stomp that into the ground), read a few books, watch a few films and make several mix cds for my car. Here's some highlights.

Dust is still as great now as it was six years ago on XBLA.

Somehow it’s been six whole years since Dust originally released as a Summer of Arcade title on the Xbox 360. It’s incredible to me that it’s been that long, but though six years have passed, Dust still holds up as a great title today. Since its original XBLA release, the action-adventure spectacle has made its way to PC, PlayStation 4, iOS, and now most recently the Switch, where it feels right at home.

While Waiting for Install

Wolfenstein II took all day to install but mostly because I kept pausing it so I could play Minecraft with Mark. Minecraft online gets really laggy if you are installing a game at the same time on Xbox One. So it never did complete, but it will be done tomorrow. Here's the other stuff I did instead.

So I'm fairly sure I didn't play anything IN this year, but I've cheated a bit to include the games I played at least pretty close to 2011. This was another one of those "transition" years where nothing happened.

Why Sony and Microsoft Should Make New Handhelds

Way back in 2013 I made a wild prediction that the Playstation Vita would be killed off sooner rather than later. And I was right.....kind of. I don't know, what happened with the Vita could have been seen as me being wrong, but it was in a unique spot. It kept getting ports, mostly of indie games, but Sony couldn't care less about making games for the handheld. Most publishers ignored it as well and no games were really pushing the hardware after Killzone released. That was a weird handheld.

Xbox Games I Want on XB1 Most

So, Microsoft actually gave me a legitimately good reason to keep my Xbox One: Upscaled original Xbox games. With reasonably priced digital copies too! And here's the thing about the Xbox: It has a ton of awesome games you can't play on modern tech. So here's a list of what I want to see on it. I'm mostly basing this on games' availability on other tech, so as much as I love Jade Empire and Halo 2, there's other games I'd rather see on here.

Forza Horizon and a Mess of Downloads

I decided to take advantage of a lot of free stuff on Xbox Live today. I downloaded the new Games with Gold titles, Battlefield 3 and Oxenfree. Then I went to the free section of the store and downloaded Minecraft Story Mode Ep. 1, Dungeon Defenders II, Life is Strange, Fallout Shelter (my real reason to look at free stuff), Gwent: The Witcher Card Game, Prominence Poker (by, I think, the guys who did the Borderlands themed Poker Night on XBLA a while back - same art style), and A King's Tale: Final Fantasy XV (I love the retro look of it). Then I ignored all that while they installed and played Forza Horizon ALL DAY with Mark.
