A bunch of stuff here. I finished with Disneyland Adventures, dug into some DKC games, popped in some GameBoy games into my SNES GameBoy Player, and roamed the post-apocalyptic landscape in Fallout 4 and Wasteland 2. DETAILS!

I was recently transported to the year 1976. First, I told my 9-year-old self to get with it. Then I looked at what video games I could play. I’m shallow. Deal with it.

It has been a very long time since my last blog. The beginning of the year was a bit rough for me up through May I had constant sinus infections/colds/allergies it was a mess. I finally opted to get sinus surgery and I am able to breathe SO much better than before and when I am congested my face does not hurt as horribly as it did before. I am still not 100% recovered but at least 50%. I should be fully recovered by mid to end of July. At least I am able to breathe normally and sleep now.

Trading for the Switch

I'm going through my collection now and trading in anything I don't have strong feelings about and saving the credit to help pay for a Switch, when I can get my hands on one. I tore through my XBO/PS4 games yesterday; and today, I hit the first shelf of Xbox 360 games. I saved some. Here's some of the stuff I saved.

Why Switch? The Pros and Joy Cons!

Look at that title. I know what you're thinking. What a vague title. Switch to what? Why it's simple. Switching to the Nintendo Switch of Course! I did my best to remain purely impartial.  So I gathered a list of pros and cons or as my pun filled title suggests joy cons (rimshot*) Anyways, bad jokes aside I figure it would be best for me to offer my opinion. Because even though I am a fan. I am privy to Nintendo's manipulative ways. So without further ado...here's the list!

Switch vs. Smach

So it's a pretty safe assumption that you've heard about the Nintendo Switch by now. Nintendo is finally combining their handheld and console hardware into one risky gamble for their next platform. With this comes discussions on how it will compete with the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and mobile platforms to carve its own niche, but did you know there is also another dedicated handheld releasing in Spring 2017? Yes, even though Sony may or may not release another handheld, there is a new contender to take their place with the Smach Z, a handheld dedicated to playing Steam games, as well as other PC titles with some troubleshooting. So why not see what new ventures gaming on-the-go will bring us this next year?

Also, a lot of new hardware announcements.

I think it’s safe to say that the unveiling of the Xbox One a few years ago was one of the most tone-deaf, poorly received debuts of a video game console since, well, Sony commented that people would get a second job to afford their $599 PlayStation 3 all those years ago. Since then, Microsoft has been doing everything in its power to right those wrongs and bring their console up to the user base that the PS4 currently enjoys. This E3 continues that trend and, while there were very few surprises, the Microsoft press conference put the emphasis squarely on exclusive games and community.

Hello there, sweeties. My name is Merrydith and I am fairly new to gaming. I mainly got into it because my grandson was into it and he promised he would watch matlock with me if i played the splashtunes with him. Well, I'm a convert now, and I play games every day! I play the marios, I play the elder scrolls which lets me walk which I haven't been able to do ever since my polio got worse. I blame my husband for that of course. Even in death he causes me pain.

2006 Top Ten Lists

2006, a year in which I bought a Xbox 360 because I just had to play Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. It was a nice moment I remember seeing that expansive world for the first time at home. I got into comics starting with The Halo Graphic Novel. From there it was weekly visits to the comic store to pick up all sorts of new stuff. I also starting reading the Halo novels this year and have been ever since. The insane and incredibly entertaining movie Crank came out this year. I still quote from it all the time. I distinctly remember going to the movies to see Tenacious D and the Pick of Destiny. It was ok. My favorite song, as happens many a time, was in the credits, the song, The Metal. I guess I could say more, but I think I'll just drop a bunch of top ten (or less) lists. Feelin' kinda down today.

Woo hoo Witcher woman! She got the moon in her eyes!

The Witcher games have always been very odd for me. Fantasy RPGs tend to stick with a particular tried-and-true formula, yet the series has made an effort to be distinctly different from everything that might make it similar to Dragon Age or The Elder Scrolls. Some of the decisions - like its distinct races and lore - are a welcome diversion. Yet there are some design choices which feel different for the sake of being different at best and baffling at worst.

I played two games, both number five in their respective series today: GTA V and Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. Most of the day was GTA V, but I got in a few hours with Skyrim before the day ended. I didn't thnk I'd stop playing GTA V either, but the issue that's bothered me in other games in this series reared it's ugly head again and that's the shooting.

So I know the PC verison hasn't really gotten the best rep ever but if anyone was or still is interested in the console beta check your email if you signed up for it a long time ago. I received a email announcing the beta was gonna start soon which also had me take a survey which pretty much let's them know what console you want it on and servers. I'm gonna give it a go and see if I like it. Well if I get an invite. Figured I'd let yall know.

Doing Everything But Actually Playing The Damn Games

During my free time over the last 5 days I've watched a guy play Resident Evil: Revelations 2 on Twitch. I read an article about the design of Doom. I looked at spell lists and videos for a Skyrim build I'm planning on playing. I watched the Angry Video Game Nerd play some Super Ghouls and Ghosts. I watched a discussion on a piece of 3D concept art for the upcoming Unreal Tournament game. I looked up armor and skill information for Monster Hunter Freedom Unite. I chatted about Metal Gear Solid V in a forum. Watched an Arkham Knight gameplay demo. Contemplated whether I should buy Darkest Dungeon, RE REv 2, or Wolfenstein: New Order. Wrote a list of older games I want to complete this year. Amidst all of this game related activity, the one thing I didn't do was play games for more than 1 hour.  This is a problem. A first world problem.
