These are not at all relevant to Rangergirl's excellent Folk Friday #5 songs today, which are all "work songs" (don't worry, they're fun to listen to, just used for working people to keep rythm, etc.), but listening to those did somehow remind me of a few acoustic songs by heavy bands that I really like, and that work, despite seeming to be completely outside the style the bands typically play in, though I mean that in the public sense, as even most heavy bands write their music acoustically before plugging in the amplifiers to record the album versions.

Several regular bloggers on 1up were doing weekly music blogs. Homelessrook had Metal Monday and Punk Tuesday, sneenlantern did Modern Classical Wednesday, and I had just started doing Folk Music Friday. With the move to PixlBit, we decided to keep on doing this. This was my first entry, and then my laptop crapped out on me, and then I got the news that 1up was closing, so the momentum got a little lost. Apologies to anyone who's read this before.

While video games are a major hobby in my life, that's not all I spend my time on. Music has been an important part of my life and I adore all kinds of music. Rock, pop, country, classical, hip-hop, folk, the list goes on. Whether its popular or underground, I am constantly looking and listening to different kinds of music. So in this new blog series, I'll nerd out on different music that I like or dislike. Topics will vary from artists to albums to genres to anything I can think of. As long as it's music related I'll discuss it in this series.

It has been roughly six years since rhythm gaming really hit the market with force, thanks in large part to the runaway success of the Guitar Hero series. Before long, plastic guitars were supplemented with plastic drums, and microphones, and the birth of full band rhythm gaming was upon us. Eventually Harmonix landed on the only logical conclusion for such a genre – the ability to play real instruments to real notation within the game. At the point of reaching the plateau, the genre has been given a death sentence. Activision is halting the Hero series and Harmonix has been sold and downsized, needless to say, things are looking pretty grim for the future of rhythm gaming.
Grand Theft Auto: Episodes From Liberty City is the physical compilation of the two separate expansion packs for Grand Theft Auto IV: The Lost and Damned and The Ballad of Gay Tony. Each episode is completely unique, following a different story and a different set of characters through Liberty City. Though not directly linked to Grand Theft Auto IV, the stories will occasionally wind through the going-ons of Niko, but only as a peripheral occurrence, and clearly only as fan service. Those familiar with the gameplay and style of Grand Theft AUto IV will already know what they should expect from Episodes From Liberty City.
2009 was a solid year across all consoles. I was surprised how many niche titles made a big impact on me, while a number of high profile titles simply underwhelmed me.
While the VGAs haven't been the most exciting awards in past years, this year, Spike TV made sure to sign on a number of companies to announce a variety of new titles.
As it turns out, 2009 was a seriously packed year with a large variety of titles being released all year long.
With The Ballad of Gay Tony, the second downloadable episode for Grand Theft Auto IV, hitting on October 29, Rockstar is releasing more information about it, specifically the new additions to the multiplayer.
In a little over three weeks from now, Rockstar Games will release their second Xbox 360 exclusive expansion for their popular title, Grand Theft Auto IV.
