Got a couple game related things to mention.

Just a routine day in Etrian Odyssey Nexus. No quests to be had yet, so just exploration, map making and gathering resources for new weapons and potions. I mapped out the Small Orchard and then entered the Jungle where I mapped level 1 and fought some new monsters.

I took up a new mission from HQ to defeat the Berserker King in the Lush Grasslands and two quests from the bar to find materials. I got the two quests for materials, but I am still hunting the Berserker King.

They didn’t have a quest for me, so I just took off to the islands to explore. I found a soldier’s campsite and the Lush Grasslands. By the time I got back, I was given a new quest.

I encountered my first boss in Etrian Odyssey Nexus, the Blossombeast. I rolled it with auto-battle and won. It took longer than a regular fight but I didn’t get damaged too much.

I was surprised to see this sequel to Etrian Odyssey V on the release list for February. I immediately tried to preorder, but it was out the next day, so I just picked it up on the 5th. I played the first two missions tonight.

I did the weekly challenge in Forza Horizon 4. There are also daily challenges, but I largely ignore those since I don't play every day. For the weekly, you are tasked with four challenges using the car they ask you to drive. For doing it, you win credits you can spend on special Horizon Edition cars, clothing or wheel spins (random rewards). The rewards are in a special store and use the currency you can only get through these challenges and periodically occuring Forzathons, which are multiplayer challenges that take place at different locations on the map. It's fun. I'll do it every Thursday when they drop, I think.

I preordered Atari Flashback Classics Volume 3 today at Gamestop. It comes out on Friday. Weird how they don't announce anything in advance for this game. But I'm thrilled to get it so soon. I also picked up Culdcept Revolt for 3DS again because it dipped below $20. I've played it before, but I wanted it in my collection. The game's AI frustrates the heck out of me, but I love the basic gameplay of the game so much, I'll play it again anyway. Here's a pic.

I can't resist starting my media searches a little bit early. I love seeing what's coming out and making a list of things I'd like to experience. As for retro, it's not really retro for me in November because I'm reviewing the years 2015-2019, which is recent past, present, and future. Here's some new game releases I'd like to get day-one, if I could.

I'm sitting here waiting for fireworks. Immediately, of course, I think of a video game. This one is Rocket Mania. It's a fixed screen puzzle game I played way back in 2003 on PopCap.com. Reconnect the fuses as fast as you can and watch the fireworks. I just noticed there is a Deluxe version on Steam for download for $1.25. Yippie! But that's not all my droogs, I've been playing lots of other things too. Details!

My 2017 Must-Play Games

I recently made a list of current gen games and rated them based on how excited I was for them. Five stars was a "must play" game; four stars said, "I really want to play it"; three stars just, "want to play it"; and two stars was a, "curious". There was no need to list one star games. You could say those were all the rest. So here is a list of my five star games for 2017 in chronological order.

Two days ago, I set up my Wii to play 1979 games on Namco Museum's Megamix. Then I played Forza Horizon 3 a good long time. Then yesterday I put a little time into Etrian Odyssey V while I did wash at a laundramat.

I traded in Mark's old PS2. I had to make sure I had two controllers for my own PS2 before I let it go. It wouldn't do to not have 2 controllers. I used the money for a few Orginal Xbox games now on the new back compatibility list for XBO.

My next Gamefly game rental will be Yooka Laylee. I've always wanted to play the Banjo Kazooie games but never got to them. This will be a similar game from Rare, so I'm excited to try it.

Had to take Mark to the doctor, so I got my business stuff done in the morning and headed over there a little early to play some games. Then I played the Etrian Odyssey V demo in the waiting room for 90 minutes. Afterwards, we got some pizza and played Minecraft the rest of the evening.

Had some time to wait while my roommate got ready for a day out. Turned out to be quite a while and I got a lot of time in with Etrian Odyessy V demo.

Well, I'm out of work again, and so, today, since I have my school work done already for the week, I went on a photo shoot with Mark and then played some Forza Horizon. Then I heard on the Axe of the Blood God podcast (Kat Bailey - remember her from 1UP?) on my way home, that there was a Etrian Odyssey V demo on the 3DS eshop. So I'm downloading it as I write this. Oh, yes, it's done!

Done with Achievements and Bravely Second

I think I'm going to avoid going after achievements anymore. It's making me into a bit of a jerk especially when it comes to co-op play. I'm forgetting what it's all about, and that's having fun. It's going to be an effort for me to not think about them or steer my playing in that direction, but I think it's necessary if I want to have friends to play with. The Borderlands series especially brings this to the fore, because I get really frustrated going for achievements in this game. It's just not a healthy way to play. It's sort of obsessive. It's like I'm becoming one of the characters in the game - one who has a wildly out of control neurosis.

Happy cyber Monday! I'm done my shopping for the week. I went to Toys R Us late on Sunday, but didn't get anything. I was looking at Lego Dimensions Story, Level and Fun packs but aside from the Midway level pack, I didn't really feel strongly about any of the rest. The Level Packs were marked down $10 from $30 and that didn't seem all that special either. I'll get it later when I start playing the game. Onward to the week's gaming.

Jesus christ guys. Sorry for the bombardment of blogs. The Nintendo thing is kind of a big deal. Now that I've had some time to think about it I think I should make a proper in depth blog about what I think about the system.
